THE CHELSEA MOTORCYCLE GARAGE
Chelsea Motorworks is a startup builder in Cleveland, Ohio. After spending 20 years building and restoring classic British sports cars the need more and varied projects drove me to motorcycles. Having been a fan of the style and creativity of the custom scene I finally realized my creative dream in 2019 and the completion of my first bike. A 1982 Suzuki GS550 cafe racer style. The chopper style is not my thing and the cafe and brat style offers so much design flexibility that it was a natural attraction
1982 Suzuki GS550
My first creation. A sorry 1980's cruiser that had seen better days. The bike was restyled as a cafe racer. Updates include a Motogadget M-unit blue to bring the electrical system to modern standards. The frame was de-tabbed and all wiring and battery were consolidated to a small tray under the seat. Tank is Suzuki GS850
1988 Suzuki GN250
For the second project I chose a much smaller and lighter donor. A 1988 Suzuki GN250. The challenge was to create something that offers a creative and cool design, updated electrical system with a Motogadget M-Unit and Motoscope Mini gauge as well as slightly increased performance. A slick update for a beginners bike and an in town commuter.
1975 Honda CB400F Super Sport
In my view, the CB400F Super Sport is one of the high points of 1970's motorcycle design. It was also considered to be the first production sport bike. The frame is not much larger than the engine it holds resulting in a very low center of gravity giving an awesome ride. Then there is that beautiful art deco exhaust header. This too was treated to the Motogadget M-unit and Motogadget Motoscope Pro digital dashboard. This build was done with a focus on overall rideability as the airbox was retained and the chassis was not modified. The primary styling upgrades are the rear tail section, change to a one up riding style, gold hubs for a flash of color and one size larger width tires and rims for a slightly more aggressive stance.
